A recent study from the University of Melbourne has revealed that hearing aids can stabilize cognitive function for at least 3 years for older adults with hearing loss.

The study compared 2 groups of adults all ages 60 years or older, over 3 years. All participants in group 1 had hearing loss and wore hearing aids, and group 2 did not use hearing aids.

Over the years the groups were assessed on their cognitive ability. It was shown that the group who didn’t wear hearing aids demonstrated cognitive decline on their assessments, while the group who wore hearing aids showed cognitive stability. This research shows us that hearing aid use is an effective method of delaying cognitive decline in adults over 60.

Some other benefits of hearing aid use include; maintaining effective communication, promoting healthy aging, improves quality of life, and help maintain social engagement, all of which improve overall well being.
