So, what do we like about Oticon Zircon 1 so much?
The Oticon Zircon 1 can be used for a large range of hearing losses from mild to profound and comes in multiple different styles and 5 colour options. It’s a brand new hearing aid and only hit the market this year. The Zircon runs on the Polaris Chip Platform, meaning that many of the advanced features have now been brought into the budget range. These include:
BrainHearing
BrainHearing technology is Oticon’s surround sound feature that was only available with the Premium hearing aids…until now! BrainHearing technology allows us to experience sound in a 360 degree sound scape attempting to better copy the ears of someone with normal hearing. BrainHearing technology focuses on all sounds and helps us focus on what we want to hear. This influences how the directional microphones and noise reduction strategies have been implemented in these particular aids. So, if it’s a natural sound experience that you’re after, these aids are the ones for you!
Tinnitus Sound Support
Many of us are familiar with that pesky ringing, hissing, buzzing, or clicking noise in our ears. If tinnitus is particularly distressing for you, our audiologists Christy and Laura can unlock the tinnitus features on the Oticon Zircon 1 hearing aid for you. This feature allows you to select a soothing sound such as ocean waves or white noise to cover the tinnitus sound. Unlike other hearing aids, you can change the type of sound and the volume in the Oticon app. At Hearing SA we love this level of freedom for our clients!
Advanced Features for Better Speech Understanding:
The Zircon 1 includes many other advanced features which are now available for the first time in a Smart Value hearing aid! These are the Open Sound Navigator, Speech Guard, Feedback Shield, and Speech Rescue. The Open Sound Navigator works in conjunction with the 360 degree surround sound. As the sound is coming in from all directions, the sound navigator analyses the signals including the importance, direction, intensity, and pitch and adjusts noise reduction and microphone direction accordingly for the best level of speech preservation. Speech Guard prevents the hearing aid from becoming too loud or distorted. The Speech Guard adapts to the unique listening environment and minimises sound distortion and maximises intelligibility and sound comfort. The Zircon 1 also comes with an advanced Feedback Shield to prevent the hearing aid from whistling uncomfortably in your ear. The shield uses multiple methods including: frequency shifting, phase inversion, and volume reduction to minimise or prevent feedback from occurring. Reduced feedback allows for a more comfortable and open fitting for you!
The last new technology added to the value range is the Speech Rescue. Speech Rescue is a pitch lowering strategy. This is useful for people with high levels of hearing loss in the higher pitches. It essentially moves the sounds from the high pitches to more audible areas in the low pitches. For example, ‘s’ is a high pitch sound which may not be audible to you if you have a severe or profound hearing loss in the higher frequencies, shifting the ‘s’ to a lower pitch would make it audible to you.
Flexible rechargeability:
The Oticon Zircon 1 comes with multiple recharging options. There is a desktop charger and a portable charger to allow you to charge your hearing aids any time anywhere! The portable charger is ideal for camping and provides up to 3 full charges before needing to be charged. The Zircon 1 hearing aids themselves will last 24 hours before needing to be recharged. They come with colour coded LED lighting to indicate how much charge they have. That’s convenient when you’re on the go! And if you’re more of a fan of the old style battery operated version, this is possible too with these hearing aids! Extra features:
The Zircon 1 hearing aids also come with an advanced music program allowing you to enjoy music to the fullest regardless of whether it is a live concert or streamed music signals. Speaking of streaming, the Zircon 1 also comes with bluetooth technology. It has hands-free technology compatible with Apple products. This means you won’t have to speak into the phone for the person on the other end to hear you, and you’ll have both hands free to do other things such as driving. While hands-free technology is not compatible with Android devices, you can still use bluetooth to stream conversation and other media directly to your hearing aids. For example, your favourite podcasts or music can now stream directly into your ears.
